Message from our President,
Amanda Grochowich RPP, MCIP
In presenting the annual report for 2023, I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to all of our CIP-PSTF members, donors, volunteers, and partners for their continued dedication and support. Your contributions enable us to provide scholarships, bursaries, and awards to students pursuing a career in planning, and we are incredibly grateful.
Looking at our year in review, at the 2023 Annual General Meeting we welcomed one new member to the Board of Directors – Jacob Babarinde RPP, MCIP – as well as six re-elected Directors - Felipe Canavera RPP, MCIP, Blaire Chisholm RPP, MCIP, Derek Coleman RPP (ret.), Amanda Grochowich RPP, MCIP, Mark TeKamp LPP, MCIP, and Stephen Willis RPP, MCIP.
We would also like to recognize our outgoing Board members Glenn Tunnock RPP, MCIP, and Shawn Parry. Glenn had served on the Board since 2016 and held the position of Jury Chair since the same year. He was also a very active member of the Governance and Programming Committees, and in 2020 he generously donated the seed funding for the Glenn Tunnock Climate Change Action Scholarship, which has now had three recipients to date. Shawn had served on the Board and as the chair of the Programming Committee since 2021. Prior to his election to the Board, Shawn served on the CIP-PSTF Jury from 2017-2021. We are grateful to all of our former Directors whose guidance and support have been instrumental in driving our success.
I am proud of our accomplishments over this past year – the Board was able to advance a number of governance and programming-based initiatives, committee work plans, and expand the number of funding opportunities available to planning students. For example, the CIP-PSTF Board of Directors approved their first Strategic Plan, which will guide the organization’s work for the next five years. The Board was excited to announce the inaugural recipients of the CIP Diversity Impact Bursary, the Ages Foundation Diversity Impact Bursary, and the College of Fellows Undergraduate Bursary (previously scholarship) at the 2023 AGM. Also, for the first time in 2023, CIP-PSTF awarded the Outstanding Graduating Student Award to 23 worthy recipients.
In 2023 we were pleased to be able to invite all of the eleven CIP-PSTF scholarship and bursary recipients to the CIP/API Conference in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Thank you to the Ages Foundation for your generous support!
I would like to take this opportunity to extend my congratulations to the recipients of our 2023 scholarship, bursary, and awards programs. Your hard work has earned you this recognition, and we are proud to support you in your academic and future professional pursuits. We hope that this support will empower you to pursue your dreams and make a positive impact in the field of planning. We have no doubt that you will inspire others with your passion and drive, and we are excited to be a part of your journey. Once again, congratulations on your achievement, and best wishes for your future endeavors.
The CIP-PSTF Board would also like to express our gratitude to the generous donors and sponsors that make the scholarship, bursary, and awards programs possible. Special thanks to CIP, the Ages Foundation, Dillon Consulting Ltd., SOAR Professional Services, Fotenn Planning + Design, Bousfields Inc., Glenn Tunnock, the CIP College of Fellows, and the family and friends of David Palubeski.
Finally, the CIP-PSTF Board would like to thank CIP’s staff for their invaluable contribution to the success of CIP-PSTF's operations and programs. Your guidance, direction, and support have been essential in enhancing our capacity to provide meaningful scholarships, bursaries, and awards to students pursuing a career in planning. We acknowledge and appreciate your dedication and hard work in promoting and administering CIP-PSTF's initiatives. Your commitment to our cause has been instrumental in enabling us to support the next generation of planning professionals. Thank you for your commitment, passion, and contribution to CIP-PSTF's success.
Once again, thank you all for your support of CIP-PSTF.
Sincerely,
Amanda Grochowich RPP, MCIP
President, CIP/ICU Planning Student Trust Fund
With optimism and pride, CIP-PSTF’s Board of Directors approved a Strategic Plan in November 2023 – a first for CIP-PSTF! This strategic plan established a mission, vision, and strategic priorities to guide the organization over the next five years.

New Bursaries and Awards
We were delighted to offer the following new bursaries and awards for the first time:
Scholarship and Bursary Recipients Attend the National Planning Conference
Thanks to CIP-PSTF’s Ages Foundation Travel Awards program, all eleven recipients were invited to attend the CIP/API Conference, NAVIGATION, in June in Halifax, at no cost to them. Thank you to the Ages Foundation for this incredible support!
Scholarship and Bursary Program Cycles Updated
In July, the CIP-PSTF Board of Directors approved an update to the application cycles for the scholarship and bursary programs, to better align with the scholastic calendar and student needs. Starting in 2024, scholarship applications will open in winter and bursary applications will open in late summer. Along with these changes, the CIP-PSTF Board of Directors split the jury into two, to better manage the workload and capacities of our dedicated volunteers.
Digital Badges for CIP-PSTF Recipients
In an effort to further honour and recognize CIP-PSTF scholarship and bursary recipients, CIP-PSTF was able to award 29 digital badges to recipients from 2021, 2022, and 2023. We thank CIP for their partnership in this new program.
Celebrating our Volunteers
CIP-PSTF's accomplishments would not be possible without its volunteers.
Thank you for your dedication and service!

Corporate Sponsorship Opportunities

CIP-PSTF is always interested in establishing new scholarships and bursaries that will support future planners in their education and research.
Sponsoring an annual scholarship or bursary is an effective way to demonstrate your organization’s commitment to the planning profession and your support for those in need. It is also an excellent opportunity to honour your organization’s founder(s) with an impactful legacy benefitting both Canada and its future planners.
As a sponsor, you may shape a sponsorship or bursary with your own criteria beyond the basic eligibility requirements of all CIP-PSTF offerings. Options include specifications for areas and levels of study, as well as those that promote equity, diversity, and inclusion.
CIP-PSTF will manage the promotion, evaluation, and awarding of the scholarship or bursary, and ensure the prudent management of the donated funds. Your organization will receive a charitable receipt in the full amount of your annual funding contribution.
To discuss scholarship or bursary sponsorships opportunities, please contact us at cip-pstf@cip-icu.ca.
